How to play Blind Ticker
The goal
Identify the hidden US-listed company in eight guesses or fewer. Everyone gets the same company on the same calendar day, and a new puzzle unlocks at midnight in your own time zone.
Making a guess
- Start typing a company name or ticker symbol in the guess box.
- Pick a company from the suggestions with your mouse, your finger or the arrow keys and Enter.
- Read the feedback card that appears for your guess, then use it to choose your next company.
Only companies in the Blind Ticker dataset can be guessed, so if a name does not appear, it is not the answer.
What each clue compares
- Sector: the broad division of the economy, such as Manufacturing, Services or Finance & Real Estate.
- Industry: the specific industry classification. Orange means the same industry group.
- HQ state: the state of the business address. Orange means the same US census region.
- Exchange: NYSE or Nasdaq.
- Revenue: total revenue for the latest fiscal year. Orange means within 25 percent.
- Net margin: net income divided by revenue. Orange means within five percentage points.
- Total assets: the balance sheet total at year end. Orange means within 25 percent.
Colors, symbols and arrows
Blue with a check mark is a match, orange with an approximately-equal sign is close, and grey with a cross is a miss. Arrows on numeric clues point toward the hidden company: an up arrow means its figure is higher than your guess. Screen readers announce each clue in words, so color is never the only signal.
Hints
Three hints are available each round: the sector, the headquarters state and the first letter of the ticker. Free hints add a light bulb to your shared result. When a short optional video ad is available, you can watch it to reveal a hint without the light bulb.
Streaks and statistics
Solving the daily puzzle on consecutive days builds your streak. Open Stats to see games played, win rate, current and best streak and how many guesses your wins usually take. Everything is stored in your browser, so clearing site data resets it.
Archive and unlimited mode
The archive lets you play any past daily puzzle; archive results count toward your statistics but not your streak. Unlimited mode picks random companies from the full dataset so you can practice as long as you like.
Blind Ticker is a game built on public data, not a research tool. Nothing here is investment advice.
