At midnight in your own time zone, by your device’s clock. Everyone gets the same puzzle on the same calendar date, in every game. A puzzle you started before midnight stays on screen until you finish it and still counts as that day’s puzzle.

Each game keeps its own streak, and it grows when you finish that game’s puzzle on consecutive days. In Blind Ticker, Trail Mix, Rain Check, Line of Work and Daily Value, running out of guesses resets it. In Sticker Shock, Baby Boom and Newly Minted, any finished day keeps it, whatever the score. Missing a whole calendar day resets it in every game. Hints, past puzzles and Unlimited mode never change it. A streak also disappears when your stats do. They are stored in your browser only, so clearing site data, using a private window or switching browser or device starts from zero. The last question here explains how to move them.

Yes. Every game has an Archive page with each past daily puzzle. Archive results count toward your statistics but not your streak. Unlimited mode is separate practice: as many rounds as you like, none of them a daily puzzle.

Every puzzle is built from public data, and each game’s Data page names its source and its limits. Blind Ticker uses company filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Sticker Shock uses U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics prices. Trail Mix uses National Park Service visitor statistics. Baby Boom uses Social Security baby name data. Rain Check uses NOAA climate normals. Newly Minted uses Google Books Ngram data. Line of Work uses Bureau of Labor Statistics wage and job data. Daily Value uses U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrient data.

Ads pay for the hosting and the work of building the games, so they can stay free, with no account and no paywall. They sit well clear of the puzzle board. Hints are free too: taking one adds a small light bulb to your shared result, and when a short optional video ad is available, watching it reveals the hint without the light bulb. Visitors in Europe, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked before personalized ads are used. The privacy policy has the details.

Press Report a problem under a finished puzzle. It opens an email to hello@guessday.com with the game and puzzle number already in the subject; add what looks wrong and what you expected. No email app on your device? Write to hello@guessday.com with the game, the puzzle number and a sentence about what looks off. If a correction is needed, we fix the dataset and note the change on the game’s Data page. Answers for past days are never changed silently.

Your stats live in your browser, not on our servers, so they do not move on their own. On the old device, open any game, press Stats, then Download my data. It saves a small file with the stats and saved rounds for every game, plus your light or dark choice. On the new device, press Stats, then Import, and choose that file. If the device already has data for a game in the file, you are asked before it is replaced.
