About Guessday
Guessday is an independent studio making original daily guessing games. We believe a good daily puzzle should be quick to play, fair to everyone and teach you something true about the world.
How we build games
Every game starts from a public dataset that we are allowed to reuse, such as company financial filings published by the US government. We clean the data, document our method on each game’s data page and design clues so that careful reasoning beats memorization.
Independence
Guessday is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any company, exchange or government agency that appears in our games. Company names are used only to identify the businesses described by public data. The games are supported by advertising so they can stay free.
What’s new
What changed on the site, newest first. Smaller fixes are left out.
- . Daily Value has class sets: a link that gives everyone who opens it the same foods in the same order, from 3 to 20 of them, and ends with a score. How to play explains how to set one up for a class.
- . Send feedback is in the footer, and every finished puzzle has a Report a problem link that fills in the game and puzzle number. Help & contact has answers to the common questions. The stats window has Your data: download your stats, load them on another device, or start over.
- . The price pages were rewritten to say each number once. The pages for eggs, milk, bread, beef, sugar, coffee and bananas now carry notes, with numbered sources, on what moved their prices, and item pages show their biggest one-year fall.
- . Line of Work and Daily Value open with puzzle 1. In Line of Work you name a job from its pay range. In Daily Value you name a food from its nutrition label.
- . The gas price page now has monthly prices, decade by decade, with each year’s cheapest and priciest month. Years whose months swung by 40% or more get a sentence of their own.
- . Baby name pages arrived: 179 names and 15 decades, each with a chart of babies per 1,000 births from Social Security data. Baby Boom links a name to its page when it has one.
- . Rain Check and Newly Minted open with puzzle 1. In Rain Check you name a US city from its climate. In Newly Minted you guess the year a word took off.
- . Trail Mix and Baby Boom open with puzzle 1. In Trail Mix you name a national park from its clues. In Baby Boom you guess the year a baby name peaked.
- . The price pages opened: 41 everyday prices from 1980 to 2025, each with a chart, a table and sources, and a page for every year. Sticker Shock now links each revealed price to its history.
- . You can choose light or dark mode from the header, which also shows your streak. The archive shows past puzzles as tiles with your result, and the front page cards say what today holds.
- . A finished puzzle now shows a result card you can copy or share, and the score counts up as it appears.
- . Guessday opens with two games and puzzle 1. In Blind Ticker you name a public company from its financial fingerprint. In Sticker Shock you guess what everyday things cost back then.
